What the Hell Happened to Comic-Con?

I don’t know which movie producer first glommed onto Comic-Con as a way to promote his flick. I’m sure it was a cool, cutting-edge idea at the time. And it was probably a movie with some kind of comic book tie-in.

But go to Comic-Con today, and you’ll have to look mighty hard for comic books. Even in the Marvel and DC booths, you’ll mostly find video games and film tie-ins. The whole center half of the convention floor is taken up by movie and film companies, video game developers, television networks, and “Snakes on a Plane.” It’s all Sci-Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, Square Enix, Nickelodeon, Wizards of the Coast, Activision, Warner Bros, Tower Records, Mattel and Hasbro, Lego and New Line Cinema. That would be George Lucas and his army of henchmen. They did it back in 70's and well, you see the results today.
